2008 Builder of the Year presents The Ellsworth in Wentworth Glen
For Morrison Homes, being named Calgary’s Home Builder of the Year eight years running happens when they build homes as show-worthy as the Ellsworth in Wentworth.
To the victor go the spoils is an apt way to describe the day after Morrison Homes was declared Calgary’s Builder of the Year for the eighth year. Morrison Homes after all, has been building award-winning homes since the 1960s. Building in Wentworth, which is every inch the estate community that it is conceived to be, just gave Morrison Homes a double edge advantage in the home building industry.
Wentworth is an attractive proposal for those who like the idea of living within the city and yet, have the country right at their doorstep. Two-thirds of the community will be reserved for green spaces, and a pond will surely attract birds and the growth of prairie grasses. But it’s what Wentworth has to offer that have people scouring for a spot in this impeccable estate community. “Families are enthusiastic about the schools in the area including the schools that are walking distance. In fact, they can walk to the amenities that are on 9th Avenue,” says Megan Dutton, Sales Associate of Morrison Homes. A new commercial area is also being built off Old Banff Coach Road. Churches, recreation centres, hospitals, libraries, and shopping centres are also within easy access of Wentworth.
The $880,000, 2,705-square-foot, two-storey Tudor-style home is replete with award-winning architectural features. “It’s still an open concept home, but with defined spaces,” says Dutton, referring to the partitions that give the illusion of space between rooms.
Soft rounded corners are a standard feature in all Morrison Homes, making it more child-friendly. Light streams through the large deep wall of windows that span the Great Room. Hardwood floors, wide mouldings and niches spread throughout the home, as well as the 20-foot ceiling in the great room, define the Ellsworth as an estate home. The stone fireplace with its cultured stone mantle and interior charcoal gray with earthy green tone colours is a tribute to their Selection Studio, which can custom-fit all the design elements for home buyers.
The formal dining is partitioned off from the foyer. “Home buyers can convert the formal dining into a den or flex room as there is already a dining area off the kitchen,” says Dutton. A powder room for visitors is just steps away from the foyer while a functional mud room has a bench and a walk-in closet. The walk-in pantry is accessible from the garage. Another portico leads into the tech area, where kids can do homework or where one can access recipes on a laptop.
The Ellsworth’s kitchen is a chef’s dream, with granite countertops, a flushed eating bar, gourmet countertop gas stove, charcoal stained maple kitchen cabinets, and stainless steel appliances and a wine fridge.
The second floor area is loft-like, with views of the great room. The bonus room is a step or two down, dramatic with its 12-foot ceiling. Two bedrooms with wide windows, a shared washroom and linen closet are close by. “As you can see, the laundry area has a window, and has ample countertops and cabinetry for storage and folding,” says Dutton.
The master’s vaulted ceiling and large windows make it appear even larger. The ensuite’s his and hers sinks are separated by a jetted tub while the large tile shower has a bench and a 10 mil glass door. Off one end is a private water closet. The pièce de résistance of the master suite is the large custom built walk-in closet with separate his and hers sections. A sensor turns on the light switch when you step into the closet.
