Spring Fever
While others are thinking bedding-outs, you can be thinking bedding
As spring is upon us, most of us are on the spring-cleaning frenzy or hot on the trail of new spring trends, but what most of us don’t really think about is our bedrooms. As we shed layers from cold winter days with our fashions, think about doing the same for your home. Put away those cozy blankets and welcome spring with bright, bold colour combinations to create a fun and fresh look for your home.
There are fabulous options to transform your bedroom with minimal effort. In the winter months we crave warmer tones and richer fabrics, but when the snow melts and the windows are open put the flannel and wool blankets away and find breathable and more organic materials.
When it comes to sheets, always keep it simple. Buy white or neutral sheet sets so you can always change your duvet cover and shams with the seasons. You also want to invest in great quality sheets to ensure that they last you a long time and feel luxurious when you sleep. You spend approximately a third of your life in bed, so spoil yourself.
These three on-trend looks for the bedroom are delicious and you don’t have to break the bank to achieve them! Homesense stores are de-rigueur when it comes to shopping for accessories for the bedroom. Something as simple as new lamps and bedding will do wonders to change the look of your room. Or if you want to take it a step further, paint the wall behind your bed to introduce colour and a fresh feel to your room.
Natural Inspiration
A look inspired by nature, with bird motifs, additions of wood tones and exotic textures is also possible. Use neutral looks with soft hits of colours such as mustard yellows and subtle blue hues. Lamps should be kept as simple as possible and let the duvet cover be your hit of colour. Lamps that incorporate a bit of an organic feel also work really well; try a linen shade on a simple wood base or something more sculptural like a driftwood base.
Shapes and Patterns
If your style is funkier, try incorporating bold shapes and mixing in wild patterns. The look is fun and modern. There are no real rules for this look except to be free with it and choose something you normally wouldn’t think of putting together. A black and white colour scheme is hot punched up with bright yellows and purples. It’s almost a flashback to the ’80s but modernized. Ground the look by using chrome lamps with black shades to finish the modern look.
Floral Fantasy
What else do spring showers bring but May flowers? A fun and fabulous look filled with bold floral patterns. Introduce these great floral prints with more subdued colours such as whites and creams. Gorgeous white porcelain lamps with floral accents are perfect. Be sure to keep it simple and clean. Add pillows to create more a luxurious feel, again, in florals and solids. Flowers don’t clash in nature and if you decorate with restraint they won’t in your bedroom either.
It doesn’t take much to add a little of spring’s flare to your bedroom. New bedding, additions of bold accent colours and new lamps is all it really takes. So instead of the usual spring clean, do something a little different this year and add some flare your bedroom.
Happy Decorating!
