IT TAKES AN ARTISTIC EYE and a great imagination to create the perfect balance between aesthetics and practicality and nowadays, with smaller lots and defined spaces, that quality is even more important. Luckily, these types of designers are out there, and Clay Betker, head of Design Development for Trico Homes is one of them.

Clay Betker has been with Trico for five years, but says that he has been in the industry for 17 years now. He attended SAIT’s Architectural Technologies program, graduated in 1992 and has been doing what he loves ever since. “It’s always been kind of a passion for me,” says Betker. “I loved designing homes and anything related.” When asked how he ended up at Trico, Betker says that they hunted him down at a home show. “When I was doing a home show, two of Trico’s top management that I had known previously spotted me there, asked me out to coffee and the rest is history.” One of the floor plans that Clay designed has been evolving ever since its creation, and is still one of his favourites. One of the Trico Select offerings; the Augusta is a four-bedroom,  2,793-square-foot home with a double-attached garage, and will be available in Aspen Shire; an estate community located on the city’s west side.

This particular model offers something different from some of the current floor plans available. “The Augusta is a unique main floor master suite plan that offers all of the amenities of a two storey,” says Clay. “Greater width allows us to offer the bungalow lifestyle with the square footage of a larger home.” The main level of the Augusta offers a separate dining area at the front of the home and then opens up into a beautifully designed open concept area that includes a large kitchen, eating nook, and great room with an attractive gas fireplace that serves as a focal point for the rear of the home. At the same time however, the main floor design still offers privacy for the spacious master bedroom with its huge ensuite and walk-in closet.

“The open concept design is an entertainers dream with the practicality of a family home,” says Clay. “Varying ceiling heights ranging from 10-feet in the nook to 18-feet in the great room, offer splendid architectural detailing.” Another one of the features that is family-inspired is the main-floor laundry that is discreetly tucked away and located at the garage entryway into the home. Due to the attractive design of the main floor, it may be easy to forget that there is an upper level to the home, but that level is as well-designed as the rest of the Augusta.

The second-floor design also has a lot to offer a growing family, with three more bedrooms; two with walk-in closets, a full bath, and a spacious bonus room that offers a fantastic view overlooking the great room below. The Augusta also offers an abundance of windows throughout to ensure that a maximum amount of natural light is available. Overall, the entire floor plan offers some very luxurious design features. “With a designer kitchen, spa-like ensuite, second floor retreat and generous secondary bedrooms, the Augusta brings luxury home,” says Clay. “The Trico Select philosophy provides customers the flexibility to tailor the home to their individual needs with our well planned options and inspiring design choices.”
With this philosophy in place, Clay Betker and Trico Homes will be offering beautifully-designed homes for many years to come.
