When you think of calgary's west side a few things come to mind−the Rockies, Kananaskis, pine trees and rolling hills are only a few of the draws to the area.

Perched on a west Calgary hillside is Baywest Homes’ latest show home. Baywest and Vintage Fine Homes are the exclusive builders at The Terraces of Springbank Hill, a plot of land tucked into two existing neighbourhoods on Springbank Hill. The original acreage owner recently sold the land to Carma Developers, opening up the last of the residential prospects on the unique hillside to home buyers.

“This is the last opportunity to build on this west slope,” says Baywest area sales manager Kimerie Stewart.

Staying connected to the Canadian Rockies is simple from The Terraces and it is just as easy to find your way to the skyscrapers of downtown Calgary.

“It is 25 minutes to Bragg Creek, 45 minutes to Canmore and an hour and 15 minutes to Banff,” Stewart says. “And downtown is only minutes away.”

The Santana overlooks the rolling foothills that rise out of the Elbow Valley and rise into the Rockies. The area is largely untouched and likely will stay that way because it belongs to the Tsuu T’ina nation.

Baywest Homes took full advantage of the view, making changes to the original Santana floor plan to build a unique and specialized home that is perfect for the area.

“We took out the red pen and changed a fantastic plan and showed the potential it has,” says Stewart. “Each home we build, we build around you.”

Just over 100 square-feet was added to the main floor plans so future residents could take in the amazing views. Floor-to-ceiling windows overlook the forest, which is silhouetted by the Rockies. The deck was extended the width of the home for even more viewing pleasure. Baywest’s interior designer has brought the outside in, using texture, shape and colour to create a cosy, natural feel.

Dark and medium natural-grain woods are complemented by textured glass the colour of water. Hanstone quartz countertops in “swan cotton” in the kitchen open up the room, while luminescent granite in the downstairs bar glow.

A latte-coloured Berber runs upstairs, where a generous master bedroom is another oasis to the outdoors.

The master bathroom leaves room for two people to get up and get ready in tandem. Two sinks, a bath and a shower as well as a water closet leave plenty of elbow room for any couple. And the master walk-in closet will put any neatnik’s mind at ease.

The Santana focuses on family-friendly design. Both entrances have plenty of space to keep jackets, shoes and other outdoor accessories in their place. The laundry room boasts plenty of storage as well as space for ironing out the kinks.

Besides a bar, the walkout basement is home to a second entertainment room and the home’s fourth bedroom and a third bathroom. A number of Baywest lots can accommodate walkout models.

The Santana starts at $726,810 including lot and GST. The show home can be rebuilt for just over $1 million. Baywest is also offering a four-star upgrade promotion this fall that allows buyers to choose from a bevy of upgrades for free. Each upgrade counts towards a total of four stars and includes features such as higher ceilings, bigger and better garages and hardwood flooring.

The Santana is not all there is to see at The Terraces of Springank Hill. Vintage Fine Homes opened its adjoined show home at the beginning of October. The $1.13-million Vasari is an example of the custom homes that Vintage Fine Homes will be building in The Terraces.

Buyers can also view two uniquely designed spec homes by Baywest crafted in a style called a drive-under. The homes are built into the terraced slope, allowing for a tall front elevation that draws attention away from the garage and onto the stone and stucco exteriors.
