Lighting the way
Trico show home duo shines a spotlight on style and comfort in Beacon Heights
Tallying the new communities in the northwest quadrant of Calgary is not unlike counting sheep to get to sleep.
In the blink of an eye, these communities boast such physical infrastructure as roads and commercial development. Driving up to Beacon Heights by way of Sarcee Trail on a chilly winter day, one is at once assaulted by the ongoing construction of the ring road, magnified in its frozen state. This visit to Beacon Heights is prodded by the need to see Trico Select’s Laguna and Sapphire show homes, which are within sight of the new Beacon Hill Shopping Centre.
Trico Select’s Laguna is the first stop, a handsome 1,953-square-foot, two-storey, three-bedroom show home boasting a bonus room and contemporary interiors, priced at $415,000.
“The Laguna is our brand new model,” says Carmen Havre, Trico Home’s area sales manager for Beacon Heights.
The Laguna’s hardwood floors flow from the foyer up to the open nook and kitchen. To the right of the stairs is a long tiled hallway leading to the powder room. But it is the Laguna’s ultra-modern kitchen that dominates the main floor, featuring sleek quartz countertops, stainless steel appliances and dark stained cabinets. “We get a lot of kudos for the Laguna kitchen. People like the fact that it’s so open,” says Havre.
Across from the kitchen is the great room, with its clean lined fireplace mantelpiece and flat screen TV floating just above it. “You can actually watch TV while you’re cooking,” says Havre. The little nook is just as popular with younger buyers, says Havre, noting the kitchen island can work double duty when entertaining guests. The whole theme of the floor plan is carried further with the use of simple lined baseboards and shag carpeting on the stairs.
You walk right into the bonus room as you come up to the upper floor; the vaulted ceiling above it gives it a more open feel. One of the rooms has been transformed into a home office, while the main bath has a new fibre tile that gives it more texture, and the second bedroom has a walk-in closet with a window in it. “Any light coming into a space makes it feel bigger,” says Havre. The laundry is also conveniently located on the upper floor.
The master suite boasts features that cater to the demands of a working couple: his-and-hers walk-in closets and room enough to accommodate a king-size bed. The gorgeous ensuite is equipped with a soaker tub, double vanities separated by an overhead tower and lots of storage and cabinet space.
Next door is the 2,022-square-foot, two-storey, three-bedroom Sapphire, with a flex room that can be used as a den or sitting area. Towards the right wing of the Sapphire, which is priced at $416,000, is the powder room and another door leads into the mud room that does double duty as a laundry area complete with a small seating area.
A hallway leads into the kitchen, nook and the great room, with a view of the winding staircase. The kitchen has a corner pantry, black coloured appliances, generously sized island with bar stools, and Victorian stained cabinets that match the colour of the fireplace mantelpiece. On the side of the nook is a door that leads into the deck area.
The winding staircase is the focal point of the Sapphire. Several decorative niches greet you as you move into the upper floor. “This house has the master quarters at the back (and) the bonus room up front,” says Havre. The master’s ensuite has double vanities and an oversized soaker tub. Two bedrooms and a main bathroom are located along the long hallway before the bonus room, which serves as an entertainment hub for future residents.
