Stunning standout
The Oxford hits all the right notes in Chestermere
In its finest form, home architecture can be a work of art, an aria of soaring melody that combines purpose, design and structure.
Show homes are meant to give this notion of the ideal home and impress upon visitors the beauty of each particular model, but unique designs are rarely come across that perfectly fit not only form and function but also have that uniqueness that raises it to the level of an architectural masterpiece.
Jager Homes introduces what may be the closest thing to the perfect show home with the Oxford, an elegant symphony of sound functionality and stately sophistication that hits all the right notes and then some.
Located in the Rainbow Falls area of Chestermere, the 2,582-square-foot Oxford is as venerable as its name implies and represents a distillation of Jager Homes’ more than six decades of experience in crafting residential homes. “This is the first model of its kind, designed from scratch using feedback we have received from our clients,” says Dave Yates, Jager Homes’ vice-president of sales and marketing.
In this sense it is truly a dream home because its features fulfill the wishes of customers. “They wanted an open design main floor but with some room for a bit of privacy (and) they wanted nine-foot ceilings and a stylish, but functional kitchen,” Yates explains. “Everything to make life easier for buyers went into this model.”
At heart, it is a traditional two-storey, front-attached garage style of move-up home, but one that has a very contemporary beat. A massive living room with its soaring, engineered tall wall stretching 20 feet from the floor to the vaulted ceiling provides a backdrop of airy elegance. This is further complemented by gleaming hardwood and porcelain tile flooring throughout the main floor and the lavish number of big windows, allowing beautiful natural lighting to permeate the interior. “We put in the biggest windows you can find in all Jager Homes,” Yates points out.
Adding to the living room’s distinctively dramatic flair are the high vaulted ceilings, the wood-and-wrought iron spindle staircase and the tapered, floor-to-ceiling chimney chase framing a two-sided fireplace.
The kitchen itself is a work of art with its trendy glass tile backsplash, granite countertops and stylish in-cabinet stainless steel oven and microwave.
The centre island provides a very sensible, yet chic working space. “This is what we call a step-saving kitchen; everything is within a few easy steps to make it easier for the chef, and even with the fridge door, oven door or the cabinets wide open, there is still plenty of space to walk freely between them,” Yates says.
The extended, raised bar can be party central for big gatherings or provide a practical spot for quick meals. A den on the opposite side of the fireplace and a formal dining room connected by a walkway to the kitchen provide a hint of privacy. “This floor plan allows for plenty of flexibility and we’ve accommodated requests to move walls to fit our clients needs,” says Yates, adding that the Oxford can also be built with a three-car garage.
The 1,282-square-foot upper floor has an equally well thought-out design that provides spacious bedrooms with lots of separation (the master bedroom even has a mini alcove to designate it as a private retreat). The coffered ceiling in the master bedroom gives it a luxury-penthouse look and the his-and-hers walk-in closets present an exciting challenge to fill.
There is also a corner tub and a fully-tiled glass-encased shower stall to complete the master bedroom’s five-star hotel ambience.
It isn’t just the finishing that makes the Oxford stand out, but its structure as well, including moisture-proof cladding around its base and reinforced floor joists. It also comes equipped with a high-efficiency furnace, tankless Rinnai hot water system and spray-type humidifier. “Not only is it designed to cater to our clients’ wishes but we also added in amenities we think buyers will appreciate,” Yates says.
This particular show home would normally sell for about $761,800, but that price tag is mostly because of its upgraded lot backing onto the Rainbow Falls waterway. “There aren’t a lot of upgrades in the show home and we can actually build the Oxford for as low as $393,600,” says Yates. “It really does exemplify Jager Homes’ commitment to quality and affordability.”
