The verdict is in, and once again Calgary cleaned house at the Canadian Home Builders’ Association – Alberta (CHBA – Alberta)’s awards ceremony, held as part of association’s annual BUILD conference in Jasper, September 19.

Calgary’s own Shane Homes took top honours from the RBC sponsored event—the coveted Ralph Scurfield Builder of the Year award—the same sought-after prize the company took home back in 2002. To win the prestigious accolade, entrants were awarded points for every entry to net a finalist spot and a win in various categories, with part of their score based on its J.D. Power and Associates’ Power Circle Rating. Shane Home/Creations by Shane Homes also won two additional awards during the evening.

This time the mainstay Calgary builder won by nudging out fellow Cowtown competitor Stepper Custom Homes, as well as Kensington Master Builders of Sherwood Park, who were both finalists vying for the top spot.

Kensington didn’t come away empty-handed, though, taking two awards, one in the $750,000 and over category and a second in the Green Vision category, while Stepper was also a winner for its Gabriel residence in the $260,000 to $299,999 home divison.

“Winning an award at the Alberta Awards of Excellence in Housing is an industry honour and we extend congratulations to all the winners, said CHBA – Alberta past president, Vince Laberge.

Also handed out at the annual gathering were the first annual J.D. Power and Associates New Home Builder Satisfaction Awards and the Alberta New Home Warranty Program New-Home Buyers’ Choice Awards.

In Industry Leader awards, Qualico Developments West was named large employer-builder member category, while merit awards were given to the Edmonton division of Cove Properties, and UBG Alpine Homes of Canmore. Deep Shergill, president of Prominent Homes and the Canadian Homebuilders’ Association - Calgary Region was presented with the Presidential Award of Honour.  NL
