Southern Belle
The Prescott lives up to its Majestic name at Taralake
If you’ve ever driven past the new master-planned community of Taralake, there’s a good chance you’d make a detour to see more of your first impression—a place which manages to look as if life go could a little slower, albeit amidst the chaos of a harried and frantic existence. It’s one of the charms of this Southern-style community, and this impression is carried over to the stately Prescott, one of Majestic Homes’ show homes in Taralake. “A lot of people truly enjoy the Prescott for its contemporary design, the use of rich dark colours, the light and bright accents,” says Derk Patton, area sales manager for Genesis Builders Group, parent company of higher-end Majestic Homes.
The Prescott is just one of Majestic Homes’ curve-stopping show homes along Taralake Landing, the other being the lofty Palliser. Both homes were finalists in the recent SAM Awards under the category of Best New Home. The Prescott is a favourite among the show home crowd, owing in great part to its generous four-bedroom upper storey, which also sports a bonus room that is a rarity in a 2,180-square-foot home.
As you come up the house, you’re greeted by an expanse of maple hardwood floors, nine-foot ceilings, a large double-doored closet, glass and transom window above the main door and the reeded glass interior window in the den/dining room. “The nice thing about this open foyer is you can bring a lot of people at one time,” says Patton.
Further as you walk along the hallway is a half-bathroom with a low-flow toilet and self-closing lid ideal for households with smaller members. The hardwood floor extends to the half-bath and mudroom, that appears to easily accommodate its king-sized washer and dryer combo, with plenty of room for a folding table and more cabinet space above.
Further ahead one can see the spindle railing with iron balusters windings its way up to the upper floor. To the right is the much-coveted bonus space. “It’s more of a lifestyle room which can be converted into a den/dining room,” says Patton. And because the Prescott is situated on a corner lot, it allowed for the addition of a boxed out window to make room for a hutch in the den/dining area. Other architectural details like rounded corners and transom windows make for great conversation starters.
The Prescott’s great room is open to the kitchen and the nine-foot ceiling gives the optical illusion of a much bigger space. The fireplace has a stainless steel trim along the edge. “They’ve taken away the traditional mantle and use tile all the way up to accentuate the ceiling height,” says Patton.
The Prescott’s pride is the handsome kitchen with crown mouldings, under-cabinet lighting, tile backsplash and granite countertops. The state-of-the-art appliances include an oversized refrigerator with pullout bottom freezer drawer and a designer double sink, plus loads of cabinet and pantry space. “A lot of Majestic Homes’ kitchens are either U- or L-shaped, with oversized islands that overlook the nook. It’s a great place to mingle with a lot of focus on the kitchen,” explains P.S. Sidhu, production manager of Genesis Builders Group. The kitchen nook gets lots of sun owing to the extra height of the solar shield windows.
Upstairs, the master bedroom can easily fit a king-size bed with enough elbow room for a reading area. The ensuite feels like an upscale spa with its stainless steel cabinets, double vanities, and makeup desk with a drawer and matching medicine cabinet. Other features include a corner soaker tub and an extra-large shower with a seating ledge.
The three bedrooms are well laid out, with room for a growing family. The main bathroom is large enough should the owner elect to put in a double vanity. Durable plastic laminate countertop, stainless steel sink, low-flow toilet and a one-piece tub shower ensure efficiency in this high traffic space.
The bonus room upstairs has a vaulted ceiling, additional side windows, a feature wall, a boxed out window and a fireplace. “A lot of our buyers have kids with usually a younger one and they need the extra space,” says Patton.
Most of Majestic’s buyers already live in the same community, but are looking to move up to a larger address. “They’re looking for something more elegant, with larger spaces, bedrooms, entertainment centres. A home that offers more comforts without breaking the bank,” says Sidhu.
Prices for the Prescott range from $550,000s to $700,000s with the upper range on lake lots. There’s a bounty of amenities within Taralake, from shopping, schools, and an extension of the LRT to sports and recreational activities. The Prescott is one of two Majestic show homes in Taralake.
