Stepper Custom Homes duo a solid investment for families on the grow

These days, many new homes in the market are targeted for the small family, mostly three- and even two-bedroom affairs that reflect how compact the Canadian family has become.

Families with two or three children have become the norm with the majority of new homes designed with that in mind. But with the influx of immigrants to the city, many of whom traditionally come from large extended families, there is an emerging need for more spacious homes, or at least those with the potential for future room expansions.

Stepper Custom Homes has recognized this growing trend and their new southeast show homes in the Copperfield community elegantly display how large families can be accommodated with luxurious and stylish comfort.

The 2,184-square-foot Rochsburg demonstrates how the intelligent use of available space can create a cosy, comfortable four-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bath home without appearing cramped due to shoehorned-in rooms. It even has an over-the-garage porch off the bonus room to show off its stylish flexibility up front.

This second-storey balcony is its most arresting feature because it adds a tremendous amount of natural light not only to the bonus room but adjacent bedrooms as well, not to mention its distinctive curbside appeal. “It also promotes outdoor living, at least in the months we are able to do that here,” points out Stepper Custom Homes’ Stacey Wells.

“Another popular feature of this plan is the spacious kitchen. This area boasts not only an oversized island, but also a separate eating bar, providing sufficient space for large families or comfortably accommodating guests while entertaining,” she adds.

Amazingly, the Rochsburg still has the flexibility to accommodate even a five-bedroom plan.

Edgar Policarpio, who emigrated from the Philippines several years back, says this is a plan that interests him. The Policarpios live in a three-bedroom home with a developed basement with their two young children, his in-laws and brother-in-law. “We are happy in the home we have now, but when the children grow up, a five-bedroom home with an option to develop the basement may just be what we need,” he says.

The 2,058-square-foot Whittenburg next door is similarly designed with big families in mind. Its three-bedroom upper floor also has the flexibility to add one more bedroom.

“Our Whittenburg model is a very well planned home that is a fantastic value for its size. This is a great family home with bedrooms that are large and very equal in size, alleviating any arguments over who gets the bigger bedroom. The master suite boasts a very large ensuite with a huge corner soaker tub, dual sinks and oversized shower,” Wells says.

This particular showhome also has wooden window shutters, which in any other home might have looked a little too constricting, but in the Whittenburg—with its open space and free-flowing design—it adds a nice touch of country elegance.

The Whittenburg show home has a developed basement, allowing visitors the chance to use the home to its full potential, which they can turn into a games room, home theatre or simply an extra living space.

“The show home will allow our visitors to see the basement of this home fully developed and the extra space this will provide in an already spacious home,” Wells adds.

The opening of these new homes back in May also marked the start of the builder’s Homes’ Home Owner Satisfaction Team (HOST), a program unique to Stepper Custom Homes.

HOST consists of representatives from sales, planning, construction and service who are put in place “to ensure our customers are in the loop on every aspect of the building of their home,” Wells says. “This team will make sure any questions are answered promptly and will maintain consistent contact with our customers throughout the process and take our customers step by step through the building experience from the initial reviewing of plans and specs to the presentation of the home on possession day.”

Stepper’s Copperfield show homes are open Monday to Thursday 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., and weekends and holidays from noon to 5 p.m. NL
