Windows to the world
Cedarglen Homes introduces the sunny side of life at the Summit
Windows are the eyes to the soul of a home. They breathe life into any room, allowing natural light to flood every nook and giving residents an undeniable sense of cheer and optimism for the day ahead. Houses built by Cedarglen Homes are always graced with plenty of windows that aren’t only big, but are strategically placed for maximum effect as well.
Take their new show home in Cranston, for example. The 2,081-square-foot Summit is a bright, sunny home with an abundance of windows for a friendlier streetside appeal, and a design flair that gives the home a “looking-forward-to-the-day” kind of outlook. Not only are they aesthetically pleasing, but all their windows are energy-efficient Low-E makes as well.
“Big windows are a typical trademark of a Cedarglen home, but the Summit takes it to the next level,” says Area Manager Jim Beatty. “It really has a kind of optimistic feeling about it because of all the light coming through the windows. This particular show home is on a lot next to a park so there are more windows to it, but just a couple more than it ordinarily would have.”
Side windows by the front door would have been enough for some homes, but the Summit has double sidelights plus an oversized arched window over the entrance as well, giving the spacious foyer an even more welcoming appeal.
This feeling of roominess is carried on throughout the house, especially in the open-to-above great room, which – framed by the wood and wrought iron railing staircase and two huge windows on the opposite wall – gives off a sense of drama and character. Beatty points out that the Summit offers 40 linear feet of railing as standard.
“For a mid-market home, the Summit certainly has an estate feel,” he says, “with lots of railings, nine-foot ceilings and even an eight-foot sliding, glass patio door, a lot bigger than what most other builders offer.”
The open design that incorporates the kitchen, great room and dining nook makes it a super home for entertaining guests, and the eye-catching centre island and its raised eating bar makes for a unique (as well as functional) focal point and perfect setting for breakfasts-on-the-go in the morning. Full-height kitchen tile backsplash, granite countertops with undermount sink completes the stylish look.
“There is also a big 36-inch fireplace in the great room with 20 different facing designs you can choose from,” Beatty adds.
The show home has a formal dining room on the main floor which, says Beatty, “you can turn into an office, library or a computer room — which I find is more useful to families today than a bonus room upstairs.”
The 1,031-square-foot upper floor is as equally lavish. The master bedroom is very much a luxurious retreat with a richly-appointed attached ensuite worthy of a five-star hotel. It has separate his-and-hers vanity sinks with an extended corner counter for a make-up bureau.
Best of all, the Summit can be built for only $441,900, which Beatty says is a terrific deal for any mid-size home. “You can get a show home quality home, including the stucco exterior, for a very affordable price.” NL
The Summit show home is located on 9 Cranagh Way in Cranston just off the Deerfoot Trail exit to Seton Boulevard. For more information, visit http://www.cedarglenhomes.com
