Sabal’s new side-by-side Copperfield homes break out of the duplex doldrums

Welcome to the evolution of the duplex, as Sabal Homes launches its new line of stylishly-unique attached homes that bring individual curbside appeal to each home, rather than cookie-cutter sameness.

The side-by-side homes have traditionally been two houses joined at the hip, which are exact clones of one another at least from the outside. For many newcomers to the housing market, the duplex was a preferable option over other multi-family units because it offered affordability without sacrificing space.

But what the duplex sometimes lacked in the past was a sense of individuality and curb appeal; there is a lot of truth in tales about homeowners not being able to tell their house apart from their neighbours and visitors knocking on the wrong door.

But with Sabal’s new line of attached homes, the award-winning builder has turned its “uncommonly stylish” eye to give the attached home a sense of distinctiveness and a unique personality all its own, without giving up any of the qualities that made duplexes a terrific option in the first place.

Yet all they did for the most part was adjust some aspects of the exterior—like putting doorways on separate sides of the home—which gives the impression of one big estate residence, rather than a duplex.

“We’re getting very positive feedback, not only because of the unique exteriors we have but because of the value buyers can get from it,” says Sabal’s Brenda Kelly. “One of our first buyers are brothers who saw the benefit of living side by side to create a unique complex for their families.”

Taken as a whole, Sabal’s new attached home line launched in the southeast community of Copperfield creates a handsome streetscape that has become rare these days. It forms a warm, welcoming atmosphere for the community, a suburban paradise with friendly patios and windows looking onto the street, instead of closed garages and concrete driveways.

“We’ve infused today’s most desired home features into a unique series of spacious home designs creating the perfect pairing of style and value, and you don’t have to pay condo fees,” says Kelly.

Each home comes with a spacious backyard deck and a garage pad, not to mention the potential of adding more living space by developing the huge basement. “These are just a few advantages we have over condos,” Kelly says.

There are seven different attached home designs to choose from ranging in size from 1,369 square-feet to 1,580 square-feet and starting at the low $350,000s. The price includes GST, landscaping and rear fencing, she adds. “Just from the price standpoint alone, these attached homes offer tremendous value.”

But the real magic of these attached homes is the quality and obvious care that has been put in designing its interiors.

They are uniquely appointed and designed—like all other Sabal Homes—to entertain. Wide-open floor plans with generous natural lighting are a common theme throughout and Sabal’s uncommon flair for blending style and function are very much in evidence.

“The great thing about them is buyers need only to move in, without having to worry about upgrades because we’ve thought of everything and put it in one attractive package,” Kelly says. “Most of what you see in the showhomes is standard, including the laminate hardwood flooring, the gourmet kitchens and the elegantly detailed bathrooms.”

The project’s location in Copperfield makes it doubly fortuitous as the southeast community has some of the best amenities around—including greenspace, tranquil ponds and pathways weaving throughout. Schools, shopping and entertainment are close at hand, and proximity to major thoroughfares including Deerfoot Trail and 52 Street complete the ease-of-living scenario.

The duplex may still be the identical twins of the real estate world, but with Sabal’s attached home lines, you will never have the problem of distinguishing one from the other.  NL
