Holding down the forte
Carriage Homes of Garrison Green keeping military tradition alive
Garrison Green is a unique community that now resides on land that was formerly used by our Canadian Armed Forces. Today, Garrison Green is an attractive neighbourhood that incorporates boulevards lined with 50-year-old trees, lush lawns, and homes with quaint front porches. All this ensures there is a familiar and comfortable feeling of coming home to a friendly old-fashioned community, a place where you know your neighbours you feel safe and secure. In addition to the nearby golf courses, Weaselhead Park, and the abundance of walking and cycling pathways, Garrison Green is home to three different parks that are a tribute to our Canadian Peacekeepers.
The first of these parks, Peacekeepers Park, is a 1.85-acre space that includes a Wall of Honour Commemorative, a tot lot and open grass area. As well as these parks, many of the streets are named after honoured peacekeepers, and even the name Garrison Green reflects its military legacy.
Mark Love, president of Forte Builders Inc. says that as this wonderful mid-town community nears completion, his company is building its final 30 homes this year. “Our new show home is the Tudor Residence,” says Love. “It embodies the design fundamental of our former show homes, winners of the 2006 Awards of Excellence in Design in Alberta, as judged by the Canadian Home Builders’ Association—Alberta.”
This incredible show home boasts 2,503 square-feet of exquisitely designed features, and includes a rear-access garage. The exterior is an attractive combination of stucco, stone fascia and elegant iron-work, and as you mount the stairs to the charming front porch and open the door to the main foyer, you will realize that the aesthetic appeal doesn’t end there.
Entering the home you are greeted with warm hardwood flooring, an abundance of windows and the large, attractive tiled fireplace of the great room. The white fireplace mantel, pillars, extra-deep baseboards and decorative trim give this room an added touch of elegance. One of the more unique features of this model is the courtyard nestled between the great room and the dining area towards the rear of the home. This stylish courtyard is surrounded by windows, offering a view from both rooms, and is accessible via the door from the hallway at the foot of the stairs leading up to the second level; giving it the feel of a sunroom at the centre of the home.
As you move to the back of the home you have the spacious dining area and the beautiful kitchen with its luxurious granite countertops and stainless steel appliances. Another nice touch is the under-mounted stainless steel sink in the eating island, and you can’t miss the corner pantry with its frosted glass door. Additionally, there is access to the garage through the mudroom which doubles as the laundry room.
This makes it great for bringing in groceries and keeping unsightly boots and coats out of sight. Another practical feature of this design, however, is the access from the kitchen to the bonus room above the garage.
The bonus room has unique lines, and its location is great as a television room for the kids or a quite office tucked away at the back of the home. Either way, the spot is completely separate from the rest of the second floor, which ensures privacy for both it and the upstairs bedrooms. As for the rest of the upper level, the master bedroom is as spacious as it is comfortable. This huge room has lots of windows and a luxurious ensuite that includes a corner soaker tub, a separate glassed-in shower stall and his-and-her sinks and vanities. NL
