Established in 1964, Janssen Homes continues to provide “a tradition of trust and a commitment to quality” today. “Our integrity and loyalty to our customers is paramount,” notes Diane LaMonaca, Janssen Homes’ sales representative.

Perhaps the greatest testament to Janssen’s success as a respected builder in Calgary and Cochrane is the Legacy Achievement Award Janssen was honoured with in 2006 for 30 years of customer service, from the Alberta New Home Warranty Program.
The builder is currently crafting homes in the community of Sunset Ridge by Tirion, located less than a kilometre from downtown Cochrane along the scenic and historic Cowboy Trail (Highway 22).

Well worth the drive, one of two show homes is the stunning three-bedroom, 2,471-square-foot Heritage model valued at $640,000 including lot and GST. The home has a developed walkout basement, adding more than 900 extra square-feet of luxurious living space, complete with a beautiful custom wet bar, rumpus room, full bath, an additional flex room, as well as ample storage space.

Upon entering the stylishly appointed home, quality is evident, from the many transom windows to the hand-milled maple hardwood flooring throughout the foyer, den, dining room, kitchen and family room.  Ceramic tile is found in the pantry and bathrooms.  Nine-foot knockdown ceilings are standard on the main floor and lower level, with eight-foot ceilings upstairs.

With the exclusion of the cabinets in the kitchen, bathrooms and laundry room, all the millwork is built on-site. This includes the beautiful desk and built-in bookshelves in the den on the main floor, as well as the pillars and mantle surrounding the gas fireplace in the family room.  The closets in all the bedrooms are also custom built on-site using painted wood shelving instead of the typical wire shelves.

Granite countertops are found everywhere within the show home, even in the spacious laundry room. Undercabinet lighting in the gourmet kitchen adds ambiance and highlights the ceramic tile backsplash.

A trip up the staircase railed with stunning maple and wrought iron brings you to the spacious upper floor. The master bedroom is well thought out, having enough room to hold large pieces of furniture, while showcasing a lovely view of the ravine and Bow River valley. The spa-like ensuite includes a jetted tub, glass shower and water closet, plus a his-and-hers vanity.

Two additional bedrooms are located upstairs, as well as a second bathroom.  Completing the second floor is the bonus room with a freestanding Vermont casting gas corner stove, surrounded by stacked cultured stone.

Very evident within Janssen’s show home are the number, style, size, and placement of windows, bringing in copious amounts of natural light. “We want light to flow through the house,” explains LaMonaca.

Recently transferred from Fort McMurray, Jill, John and their two young daughters are keen to take possession of their own Janssen Heritage home.  “A Janssen home is well built and there is good chemistry in their homes.  They put in the extra touches,” says Jill, adding, “I fell in love with the floor plan.”  John adds: “It is hard to compare!”

“The purchaser helps us build their home with their input and we offer them many choices” says LaMonaca, citing lighting, appliances, flooring and cabinets. “We are a semi-custom builder.  If the buyer wants to move a window or a wall, it’s possible. We’re there to make it happen.  We help to create what the purchaser wants.”

Sunset Ridge is located in the picturesque town of Cochrane, 20 minutes west of Calgary. From Highway 1A, turn right on Highway 22 (north). Take the first right on Ranche Road and head left up the hill to 16 Sunset Close.  Show home hours are Monday through Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., weekends and holidays, noon until 5 p.m. NL
