Cardel and CityTV team up to grant Calgarians’ wishes
CARDEL HOMES and CityTV have teamed up for Rebuilding Lives 2006, a unique program which sees professional tradespeople and volunteers go out into the community and renovate homes for deserving Calgarians.
Under this year’s theme of ‘Granting Wishes’, seven different Calgarians whose lives have been altered by misfortune such as illness or accident have had their homes targeted for renovation. From constructing wheelchair ramps, to altering kitchen cabinets and counters, to repairing roofs or floors, the goal is to turn these homes into more functional living spaces designed around people’s abilities – not their limitations.
We profile some of these efforts in the next several editions of New Home Living.
KIM WENT ON a family vacation in September and contracted flesh eating disease. She was given a five per cent chance to survive. She has had both legs amputated below the knee , as well as one hand and half the fingers from her other hand. The Rebuilding Lives team is redoing the bedroom, ensuite and hallway of Kim’s Deer Run home.
Kim requires a smooth floor surface to help her get around easier and also needs a shower that allows her easy access.
