Morrison throws Auburn Bay show home into Cash and Cars kitty
When Morrison Homes decides they’re going to build a high-end home they don’t fool around. And the Georgian, at 11 Auburn Sound Manor in the immensely popular new community of Auburn Bay in southeast Calgary, is no exception.
The show home itself has been open now for a while, but has recently gained new life as the main prize in the 2010 Cash & Cars lottery in support of Alberta Cancer Foundation and Canadian Cancer Society.
It’s not that it’s such a huge home (3,085 square-feet) for the price tag (just over $950,000 fully furnished), but it IS a great value thanks to Morrison’s meticulous attention to detail. Which maybe has something to do with them winning the Canadian Home Builders’ Association — Calgary Region Builder of the Year Award nine, (yes, nine!) straight times in the last nine years.
Entering the two-storey home through the front entrance, the grand foyer is highlighted by circular staircases heading upstairs and to the as-yet-unfinished basement. Tile and hardwood floors are standard throughout the main floor as well as tile in the bathrooms. Stepping past the stairway and looking right is the living room, replete with a two-way fireplace shared with the back deck.
The entire breadth of the kitchen is open to the living room, making the home seem larger than it’s actual square footage. A huge island, with granite countertop of course, tons of cupboards, stainless steel appliances and a handy butler’s pantry make for a food prep space any chef would be comfortable in.
Upstairs are the bedrooms, a bathroom, laundry room and a bonus room. The master is plenty big, with room enough for a small seating area off to the side. The stars of this show, though, are the gorgeous ensuite, with two-person spa tub, and the huge walk-in closet, which features built-in dresser drawers and shelves, and plenty of hanger space.
Even the kids’ bedrooms are a pretty good size, with generous walk-in closets. As functional as it is beautiful, the second floor laundry room is close to bedrooms, has plenty of counter and storage space, a huge washer/dryer combo, and an often overlooked extra, a sink.
Situated near the sandy shores of the lake in Auburn Bay, the Georgian is a lesson in casual elegance. This Built Green™ home is a modern classic in more ways than one.
Tickets sell for $100 each or three for $250. Ticket purchase deadline is October 21, with final draw November 15. Official possession date is scheduled for December 1, meaning some lucky person will have a very merry Christmas indeed! NL
