Lakeside living it up

The Stanton personifies lakeside living for the 21st Century

Lakeside living evokes images of quaint homes with stone chimneys, maybe game trophies hanging from the walls and a bearskin rug to complete the picture. But this image of life by the lake is completely blown out of the water when you see Trico Homes’ latest show home in Mahogany’s Lakeland Collection of homes.

To say that The Stanton is a fresh, innovative take on the traditional lake home does not begin to describe the sheer, sumptuous luxury and engaging design of this 2,668-square-foot show home in this award-winning lake community in the southeast.

It has a thoroughly modern design, with plenty of touches that still call to mind the best of what lakeside living is all about. There’s the raised entry foyer that adds to the visual aesthetic, a full-height window wall that makes up most of the rear wall of the main floor, and nine-foot ceilings throughout (which is a Trico standard, by the way) that makes the whole open concept main floor seem so warm and inviting.

“Our product development team have created a number of great new home designs over the last year that buyers really connect with and The Stanton is another good example of that,” Trico Homes’ Sales Manager Warren Saunders says.

There are so many new and innovative design ideas that give The Stanton its relaxed-chic character that it’s hard to single out any one particular feature. It has lots of “wow” moments, but nothing more so than its spectacular master ensuite, with its seductive four-sided glass shower that is the focal point of the open concept master suite.

“Our focus with The Stanton was to provide a comfortable family home that provided both functional value in the design of the spaces and an escape with the master bedroom feeling like a boutique style Vegas hotel suite”

But The Stanton isn’t all about flair, as the design is equally driven by functionality. The kitchen, for example, is as grand and stylish as anything seen on the Food Network, and its L-shaped design has a very form-follows-function flow to it. Notice the extended, flat cabinetry (all with soft-closes, which is a standard in Trico’s drawers and cabinets), the massive (5-by-7-feet) island with granite top, and the convenient walk-thru pantry. It is a celebrity’s kitchen if there was one. Stylish glass mosaic tile backsplash and quartz stone countertops add that much more allure.

There is also an open dining room in the main floor that is an option (the standard model has an enclosed room instead), and a large mudroom off the garage that is standard. “The large mudroom has built-in shelves and lockers that are handy for storing kids’ stuff — be it snow gear for the younger kids and sports equipment for the older children,” Saunders adds.

The bonus room upstairs is set in the middle of the home, separating the children’s rooms from the master bedroom. “The master bedroom is designed to be a retreat, and we treat it as such not just with the extras we put in the design — including the stylish ensuite — but giving it a location at the front of the home by itself, to give the owners more privacy.”

The show home’s master suite even has a discreet ‘retreat space,’ lots of wall space to give owners the option of installing a flat-screen TV in their bedroom, and big windows that not only add sublime natural lighting to the room but add a visual punch to its exterior detail.

An amazing trait of The Stanton is its extreme flexibility. There are plenty of options available to create a Stanton that’s going to fit your lifestyle. “This is the first model of its kind and the response since we opened in September has really been outstanding,” Saunders says.

In fact, it has been so popular that Trico ran out of lots in Mahogany, where they can build The Stanton to its full size. “You need a 38-foot wide lot to fit the show home model and we’re sold out of those lots right now. But, we do offer a smaller version of The Stanton that starts at 2,381 square-feet, which has been selling well, too,” he says.

The Stanton I (the full-sized version) starts at the $525,000 mark, while the Stanton II is at $484,900. “We’re right at the price that’s really attractive to move-up buyers, as this home perfectly suits families with older children,” Saunders adds.

Sales Associate Crystal Chu, says living in Mahogany is the icing on top of it all. “Mahogany was named Calgary’s Community of the Year in the spring of 2010. There is an 84-acre combined lake and beach site that’s open throughout the year. The lake itself is the largest freshwater lake in the city and Hopewell has big plans for its continued development.
