STARS Power

Augusta Fine Homes takes flight in Crestmont

At a cost of as little as $25, the Taylor show home model by Augusta Fine Homes is, quite simply, the best new home value in town. Of course, the 2,632-square-foot luxury home is actually valued at more than $1.1 million but, because it’s this year’s STARS Lottery home, it can — and will — be had for a lot less.

Located at 2 Crestridge Mews in the new Qualico community of Crestmont, just past Canada Olympic Park on the city’s western edge, this gorgeous three-bedroom, two-and-a-half bath home is truly a prize worth winning. Not to mention it helps support a very worthy cause.

Pulling up to the home, a huge exposed aggregate driveway leads to a triple attached garage. Right now, the garage interior features a welcoming stone fireplace which, no, will not actually be part of the final home plan. Exterior styling on the front elevation includes a combination of stone work and smooth acrylic stucco, with batten and shadow board tudor-style accents. A wide sidewalk and stone archway greet guests approaching the large covered front porch, which is highlighted by an artistic glass-work front door.

At the rear, off the main eating area, a 15 by 10-foot deck with aluminum railing and Duradeck surface supplies ample elbow room for fun outdoor entertaining.

Inside, the home is no less appealing. In fact, since it comes fully furnished, what you see is pretty much what you get. And that’s defiinitely a good thing. Stepping into the foyer area, dark ‘Vintage Maple’ hardwood flooring contrasts nicely with the light walls. The foyer is as functional as it is friendly, with a large coat closet and a handy bench seat built-in right next to the door. The garage entry takes you into a handy mud room that doubles as a laundry, with lots of cupboards, a sink, and Samsung front load washer and dryer. From here, it’s just a couple of steps across the Buxi Natural Bamboo 12-by-24-inch tile floor into the main floor half-bath or to the kitchen via the large walk-through pantry.

Walking into the home takes you past a cozy den/office area open to the rest of the home via two large arches, and then into the main living area. The fireplace is surrounded with ‘Bamboo Bottincinno’ tiling complemented by a solid wood mantle. Numerous large windows throughout the home means there’s also abundant natural light available all year long. The living room, kitchen, and dining area are designed as one large room, lending a spacious feel to the entire main floor.

If the kitchen is the hub of the home, it’s even more so here. A gigantic 48-inch SubZero side-by-side refrigerator/freezer is plenty enough room to accommodate food storage needs, while a Wolf 36-inch five-burner cooktop and 30-inch dual convection oven, plus a microwave, provide more than enough cooking options. A massive granite-topped island and eating bar, with ‘Moonlite’ finish, Blanco undermount sink and open dining nook adjoining the kitchen provide optimum space for food preparation and enjoyment. A stainless steel dishwasher by Asko, attractive backsplash, and two-inch crown molding on upper cabinets complete the appliance ensemble and add some nice finishing touches to the cabinetry.

Heading back to the front entry and up the stairs, which are designed against an exterior wall so as to eat up a minimum of floor space. At the top of the stairs, double doors on the left take you into an elegant master bedroom. The bedroom is soft underfoot, with 60-ounce carpet and 19-pound rubber under-cushion, while the ensuite features the same floor tiles and backsplash as found on the main floor. Granite countertops, dual sinks, sunken tub, tiled shower with water-saving rain head make for a real ‘comfort zone’ within the master area, while a good-size walk-in closet with built in shelving and drawers adds a real practical element to the room.

The extra-wide hallway leading to the other bedrooms is not really a hallway at all, but a computer nook. The other two upstairs bedrooms measure-up to the rest of the house, coming in at well over 100 square-feet each and separated by the upstairs bathroom. Finishing up the second storey is a bonus room with vaulted ceiling and custom oak built-in media centre.

The whole house is wired to the nines, starting with a 12 speaker audio system, alarm, and TV/telephone data package including 5.1 home theatre capability in the bonus room. There’s even a handy vacpan in the mud room and kitchen. In fact, since it comes fully furnished and landscaped, the only thing unfinished about this home is the basement. For $25, however, you really couldn’t ask for more. NL

STARS Lottery

Over the past 25 years, STARS has flown more than 20,000 missions, transporting critically ill and injured patients across Alberta and eastern B.C.

STARS operates three primary BK117 helicopters out of bases in Calgary, Edmonton and Grand Prairie, and maintains two aircraft for pilot training and backup. They have also purchased two high technology AW139 helicopters, with the first to be operational this year.

The STARS Lottery, now in its 18th year, continues to be the largest single source of mission funding for STARS.

A total of 3,200 prizes will be awarded, with a combined retail value of more than $5 million (including GST).

Only 895,000 tickets will be sold: 50,000 individual tickets at $25 each, 106,000 sets of 5 for $100 and 21,000 sets of 15 for $250.
