Baywest’s show home in Mahogany is one for the ages

Gorgeous, breathtaking, amazing — anyone will run out of adjectives trying to describe the transcendent beauty of the Morgan, Baywest Homes’ newest show home in the lake community of Mahogany in the southeast.

With its dramatic open to above great room complete with a soaring designer stone hearth that rises straight to the ceiling and matching cathedral windows, the Morgan is nothing if not impressive. But if you thought it was all show and no home, you’d be surprised by the elegant functionality that really is the backbone of the Morgan.

“It’s luxury and lifestyle, the Morgan is the perfect example of the high-end lakeside living we envisioned for our homes in Mahogany,” says area manager Kimerie Stewart.

The Morgan is one of six brand new floor plans that Baywest came up with for this highly popular neighbourhood that sports the biggest lake in Calgary and won the SAM Award for Best New Community last year.

“Each one represents the kind of affordable luxury estate lifestyle that all of us look for,” she adds. The 2,525-square-foot Morgan is certainly in that category as it starts at a very attractive $600,000. The community recently released its premier selection of lake front lots that Baywest will be able to craft beautifully inspired custom homes to take advantage of the setting.

The three-bedroom, two-and-a-half bath Morgan is perfect for big families, but its truly utilitarian design also found interest with everyone from young couples to retirees and even empty nesters. “Young families want to stay in Mahogany and the Morgan certainly offers them the size and flexibility they need for growth and the empty nesters I spoke with simply liked the entertainment value it has.”

And does it ever entertain! The arched threshold at the front entrance is repeated throughout the interior of the home giving a feeling of Old World grandeur. White designer tile and dark hardwood flooring combine to add to this stylish aura.

The white French Country style cabinetry and the quartz stone top of the kitchen counters and massive centre island blend with the shiny high-end sparkle of the upgraded stainless steel appliances package and kitchen fixtures to complete the dazzling look of the main floor.

“You’ve got the high ceilings and the great centre island and the whole main floor just begs to throw a party,” Stewart says. “But at the same time, we add a dining ledge to the raised eating bar on the island to make it a cozy, handy nook for quick meals with just the family.”

But what really makes it work is the functionality underlying the design. The huge laundry in the main floor is a dream for anyone who knows the utter tediousness of this daily chore. “It’s a big room not just a glorified closet. It has a sink and lots of storage compartments and a place to air-dry clothes even. Best of all it has a laundry chute which solves the problem of having to bring your dirty laundry down the stairs.”

The huge lockers in the mud room from the garage provides handy convenience for everyone to get out of their heavy coats and boots, and even for golf, hockey and other sports paraphernalia.

The wide hallways from the front entrance and the mudroom provide plenty of wall space to decorate it with your art collection or family portraits.

Wood and brushed nickel railings on the stairs to the second storey add to the drama of the open-to-above great room. The grand practicality of the home continues upstairs with the huge master bedroom and its attached ensuite that defines luxury with its three-sided fireplace, expansive soaker tub, double vessel sinks in the vanity, oversized shower stall with built-in bench and enclosed toilet. “We wanted to give owners a feel of spa-like elegance.”

The main bath across the two spare bedrooms even has a door separating the shower and the vanity. “One kid can take a shower n privacy while another child brushes their teeth – its complete functionality to fit a family lifestyle,” Stewart adds.

The show home is priced at $797,500 but a similar model using Baywest’s Prominence Collection specifications can be built for around $631,000.
“I’ve been through several show homes already, but the Morgan is special, it combines design flow and function  - the dramatic with the intimate,” Stewart says. “People have been waiting for Baywest to come into Mahogany for a long time and there’s plenty of pent up demand, and this show home does not disappoint.”
