Westward wow!
Nevada II in WestLand takes estate living to new heights
The location is perfect, the southwest neighbourhood of WestLand Estates has all the amenities that a modern family might want and need, but Baywest Homes’ latest show home here has so much more to offer with its glamourous design and functional appeal.
The 2,430-square-foot Nevada II simply puts the fun in function, as its two-storey vaulted open space in the foyer and great room create a visually dramatic architecture, and the generous use of big windows give it a natural glow and a rare feeling of grandiose grace. But its design never strays far from the practicality needed by a family that would call it home.
The visual impact of the open-to-above airiness of Nevada II is hard not to notice and becomes apparent as soon as you enter the wide and welcoming foyer.
“People seeing the show home for the first time say they are immediately awed, they are wowed by the spaciousness and the amount of natural light the floods the home, but once they’ve seen the whole home they appreciate the practical aspects of it as well,” says area manager Gabriel Hagg.
The vaulted space runs through the middle of the home and a bridge spans the distance separating the master bedroom from the two children’s bedrooms and main bath on the second floor. This unique feature gives the home a dramatic touch, especially with the elegant wood railing used through the U-shaped staircase and up. “It also gives the master bedroom a sense of privacy,” Hagg adds.
The kitchen is the second most notable feature with its distinct L-shaped counters capped off by an L-shaped centre island. This design gives it a freedom of movement with lots of usable counter space either for preparing dishes or for quick meals, which again illustrates the posh-meets-practicality behind The Nevada II.
The classy hardwood flooring gives the home an executive feel complemented by the granite countertops in the sumptuous kitchen that is further enhanced by the onyx-stain cabinetry.
The Nevada II is one of the few homes that have both a formal dining room and a home office/den in the main floor. The former is located between the foyer and the kitchen making it a convenient spot for Thanksgiving dinners and other large family gatherings; while the home office/den is at the very back of the home off the great room, which gives it the needed solitude.
The great room provides a stunning space for entertaining with its grand fireplace with an eye-catching nine-foot marble surround that climbs halfway to the ceiling. The fireplace is framed by the big windows that go up two storeys, creating an elegant focal point for the main floor, Hagg says.
The big laundry room besides an equally spacious mud room is a terrific feature for big families, both are equipped with generous shelving and other nifty storage ideas, giving them all the room needed to store outerwear as they enter from the garage and more than enough working space for laundry days.
The master bedroom is a study in luxury and comfort with its lavish, spa-like attached ensuite that features a glorious soaker tub set in between the two vanities. A five-by-three-foot shower with bench and an enclosed toilet complete the luscious ensemble and the huge walk-in closet with its array of shelves and cabinets makes it a stylish and practical must-have.
The developed basement in the show home adds about 1,000 square-feet to the home, and ups the entertainment value with its home theatre set-up and wet bar and further shows the complete potential of Nevada II.
The exterior is as captivating as the interior, as it seeks to continue the grandiosity of the design, including exposed aggregate front porches and extensive detailing to give it a more attractive curb appeal.
“Lots in WestLand range from 49- to 53-feet wide so we have plenty of room to give the home a better street profile that keeps the garage from dominating the architecture. This design subtlety has a beautiful impact on the community as a whole.” Hagg says.
“Our location in WestLand gives us an added edge, we’ve already sold about a quarter of our lots since opening in September,” he adds. “Families love the fact that they are in an already established neighbourhood with schools and shopping so close by — the Catholic school is just across the street and a public school is within walking distance as well, and there are so many groceries and restaurants and recreation areas in the area. And with the LRT coming along, we’re really just a short distance to downtown or anywhere else in town.”
At a starting price of $756,000 including GST, Hagg says The Nevada II is an affordable estate home for families with grown children or toddlers. “It’s the perfect home in the perfect location, you can’t ask for much else,” he adds.
