Willow Creek’s balanced design puts the fun in function

There are homes that focus on a few good elements in the design, but once in a while you get to enjoy one that has the full complement of fun and functionality. With four spacious, well-designed bedrooms, a stupendously free-flowing main floor, and a man-cave of a basement development, the Willow Creek by Stepper Custom Homes in Mahogany is a show home must-see.

All the elements of what makes a house a family home come in unison in the Willow Creek, a design the multi-award winning builder unveiled for the first time in this popular southeast lakeside community.

“You seldom see a show home that people come out of with nothing negative to say about it, but the Willow Creek has been getting nothing but praises from everyone who’s been in,” says Stepper Custom Homes’ area manager Mary Anderson, who has worked in the industry long enough to know a hit design when she sees one.

From the dramatic open-riser curved staircase with wrought iron railings, to the massive centre island with granite countertops, and the abundance of space that graces the main floor, the Willow Creek is a firm statement of elegance and glamour. But the functionality that comes with the design is the backbone upon which the home is built around.

There is plenty of counter space in the kitchen and space to work around, there is storage a-plenty in the kitchen as well, so storing your plates, pots and pans and various sundry kitchen essentials can be concentrated in the same vicinity and not somewhere in the basement. And for a home with four bedrooms and a big bonus room, as well as an upstairs laundry room, each room still looks and feels spacious and not like some mere afterthought.

The fun component is as literal as you can get with a fully loaded, crowd-pleasing basement development. “We call it a man-cave, and it’s been getting a lot of attention, with its wet bar set-up, comfy home theatre, we even have a hockey rink in there,” Anderson says.

At 2,588 square-feet, the Willow Creek is Stepper Custom Homes’ biggest design yet and the show home’s Craftsman elevation is a first for Mahogany. “The Willow Creek has first-rate curb appeal, it’s very different from anything else you see here,” she adds. The durable fibre cement siding and the designer stone detail of the exterior tie in with its form-follows-function aesthetic.

The interior is lavish in its use of space; the matte olio stained walnut engineered hardwood flooring captures a rare, lake villa elegance, and the alabaster-with-pewter-glaze kitchen cabinetry adds a classical touch. The high ceilings and tall windows bring a feel of bright-eyed cheeriness to the home, as well.

“The nine-foot ceilings on the main floor, as well as granite counters in the kitchen, and hardwood flooring, are all standard specifications for Stepper Custom Homes in Mahogany,” Anderson says.

The upstairs layout is just as well thought out. The bonus room is at the top of the stairs separating the master bedroom from the three other bedrooms to give more privacy to the owners. The attached ensuite off the generous master bedroom is a luxurious retreat with a glorious spa-like frameless glass shower stall and the soaker tub is an open invitation to escape the everyday world. There seems to be miles of closet space in the walk-through closet that conveniently leads straight to the roomy upstairs laundry.

“It’s a home made to host big parties, with lots of wow factors, but the comfort of the family living in it is never far from thought,” Anderson says. She adds that the family-friendly functionality of the home makes it a perfect fit for Mahogany where a vast majority of buyers are of families with young children.

Mahogany — a Hopewell Residential Community development — won the 2009 SAM Award for best new community of the year, and its 63-acre lake and approximately 21 acres of residents-only beachfront and beach club provides the perfect backdrop for homes like Willow Creek.
