Estate of the heart

Legacy’s premium estate lots bring genteel, countryside feel to the city

Estate homes — no matter how spectacular, no matter how grand — work best only if its on a remarkable location. And in Legacy’s “The Ridge” estate enclave, not only are the homes amazing, but they are also blessed with some the most exquisite views of the mountains and the entire Bow River Valley.

Making this even more compelling is that The Ridge also has some of the largest lots in Calgary. Lots that are certainly big enough to fit triple front attached garage, and four-bedroom homes and bungalows from some of the finest home builders in the city.

“On the Ridge in Legacy, you can let your imagination be your guide, these homes are truly custom designed for whatever your family needs,” says Kalida Goldade, marketing manager for WestCreek Developments, the developer of Legacy.

There are six show homes in The Ridge from Calbridge Homes, Albi  Luxury by Brookfield Residential and Morrison Homes. The select builder group was handpicked to help bring about the grand vision for The Ridge and make the most of the panoramic views from these lots, some of which back right onto Legacy’s natural escarpment.

“The show homes explore the different designs and styles that make Legacy a one-of-a-kind community,” Goldade says.

“These show homes feature wine rooms, gyms, craft rooms, formal dining rooms, walk-out basements and spice kitchens. These homes are truly the cream of the crop designed specifically for the lot and features it brings. These homes all feature covered entryways creating a welcoming grand entrance into your home.”

Legacy’s The Ridge has estate homes on 36- to 42-foot-wide lots starting in from the $600,000s, and 44- to 46-foot lots on the ridge overlooking the escarpment starting from the $850,000s. “These lots on the ridge are perfect for homes that are 2,700 square-feet plus in size with triple-car garages,” Goldade says.

But Legacy is more than just a pretty estate showcase. This labour of love from WestCreek Developments won the coveted Community of the Year in last year’s SAM Awards, and is one of the few forever communities in Calgary.

A forever community is one that offers the full range of home products that complete the home-owning cycle. From your first home, to your functional move-up, to your magnificent estate home and to the downsizer’s dream, residents never have to leave the confines of the community.

Legacy has all these and more. It is a town unto itself with its own shopping and entertainment area, generous green space and parks where one can reconnect with nature, and soon their very own schools that enhance the family-oriented neighbourhood.

Although it offers all types of home products from apartment condos, to townhomes, to duplexes, laned homes and estate homes, Goldade sees Legacy, in totality, as an estate community.

“The entire community is an estate community, that’s what sets us apart from others. There are upgraded features designed for each resident in the community. The Ridge for example, features its own entry gates which distinguishes itself,” she says.

“We want people that live and build in our community to be proud of it. That makes the entire community stronger. Which is one of the reasons why we unveiled a piece of public art for the community by Jane Seymour in October 2016.”

Legacy is now close to becoming one of Calgary’s newest established communities. Yet no matter how big or busy Legacy eventually becomes, the homes on The Ridge will still feel like a world away.

“In a Ridge home you will feel like they are in a rural setting with all of the comforts of a big city. Your unobstructed views will never be compromised,” Goldade says.

The theme of the entire community is “timeless living” and that follows through to the architectural controls, especially in the estate area, where Arts & Crafts, Tudor, Prairie, French Country, Colonial bring the vision together.

“Being Calgary’s Community of the year brings people to Legacy to look, the feel and sense of community once you get here is why people stay,” Goldade says. “Legacy is already home to young families, downsizers, right-sizers and first time home buyers looking for their home within the city.”

Legacy continues to grow with many more planned developments in 2017, including a new laned show home parade and a new townhome project from Trico Homes called Legacy Commons in the spring. There will also be a new move-up show home parade in the summer.

“The Catholic High School in Legacy is now under construction and set to open in fall 2018. In addition, the community garden in Legacy will be opening this spring as well,” Goldade says.

Recreational opportunities in Legacy include 20 parks, which include four playfields, two baseball diamonds, four soccer fields, a football field, and two water features. There are currently three playgrounds which all have rubberized surfaces. In addition there are two commercial sites, one of which has  800,000 square-feet of retail space on the west edge of Legacy.

“Our vision for Legacy is about being so much more than that place where you live and you drive into your driveway and shut your garage door behind you. We want it to be a place where you speak to your neighbours and come together as a community,” she says.
