Flexibility is key in Excel Homes’ new Westhill show home

Excel Homes’ latest show home, Westhill, in Carrington South fulfils home owning dreams for a wide range of buyers. It answers the needs of young families looking for their move-up home, for downsizers craving the space that no multi-family home can afford, and even for multi-generational families that require all the rooms they can get in one household.


Westhill was designed specifically with growing families in the mind, says area manager, Leon Kang. ”It shows the progressive thinking behind every Excel home. We studied the demographics of the northwest area and the Westhill design is the result of our findings. We know that this is the kind of home that families looking for a move-up home want.”

Key is the flexibility that the 2,451-square-foot Westhill offers. “It sits on a conventional lot so we have the ability to play around with the space,” Kang says. Westhill is a double front attached garage two-storey home with four bedrooms and two-and-a-half baths, but it can be turned into one with up to seven bedrooms with three full baths and even has space for a spice kitchen.

“People just love the layout, the functional way that the home was designed to give the most freedom to big families, yet with enough space to give everyone their privacy,” Kang says.

The community of Carrington South is just the kind of neighbourhood families are looking for, too.

Jointly developed by H3 Developments and Apex Developments, Carrington South is the newest neighborhood within the greater Carrington Community. It is a stone’s-throw away from the Stoney Trail ring road that provides easy access to any point in or out of the city, and even has future LRT station and hospital in its plans. “It is also surrounded by numerous already-existing
commercial centres that offer a wide array of shopping, dining and entertainment opportunities,” Kang says.

Carrington South will itself feature two landscaped ponds, parks, and local and regional pathways, including a connection to the longest urban pathway and park system in North America.

The Westhill starts from $580,000, including home, lot and GST.

Luxury is evident in the attached master ensuite of Westhill which shows the upgraded Level 2 specifications, including La Spieza — Bianco tile flooring and Monokini Wesminster in Paddington Grey tile backsplash. “It’s not all about the finishes either in an Excel Home, as they all come with BuiltGreen specifications that ensures we are leaving the least environmental footprint
behind,” Kang says.

The nine-foot ceiling and matching tall windows of the main floor certainly allows for the sunny disposition of the Westhill interior. Luxury Vinyl Plank flooring clearly draws the eye but the sturdiness and durability they offer are what endear them to big, busy families. “You don’t have to worry about how big the dog is, or how many, as the LVP flooring can withstand a lot,” Kang says.

The kitchen is the absolute highlight of the main floor and is very much meant to entertain, just check out the huge French door refrigerator. “This is the highest level for the kitchen upgrade and shows people its full potential. There’s still enough room for a spice kitchen if you need one,” Kang says. Quartz countertops and full height cabinetry add to the sophistication. “There’s
lots of storage space, too.”

Westhill fits Carrington South’s vision in creating streetscapes to reflect a family-friendly charm. Carriage House, Prairie Modern and Urban Modern architectural style homes to convey the vision. “There is an emphasis on curb appeal through attention to detail on front elevations and high visibility lots incorporating both traditional and modern elements to ensure lasting appeal and
value,” he adds.

The central bonus room is located right at the top of the stairs to provide a convenient, private space where the family can gather for movies or game nights. It also conveniently separates the master bedroom from the rest of the bedrooms. “We can have drop-down ceilings or vaulted ceilings in the bonus room depending on what the owner’s want, there’s an open-to-below
portion to the foyer makes it easy to see guests coming in the front door,” he adds.

The spaciousness of Westhill allows it a ton of flexibility — there are 12 pages of design options available for this particular model! “You can have a spice kitchen,” Kang says. “You can turn the den/office that we have in the show home into a main floor bedroom and convert the half-bath into a full bath for households who have aging parents living with them.”

The sizeable master bedroom includes a spacious walk-in closet and master ensuite, but the three other spare bedrooms upstairs are sizeable, as well, at about 10-by-10-feet. Excel was also able to include a large central bonus room and a big, walk-through laundry room on the second floor to make it really work for families.
