It’s that time of the year again! July brings arguably the best ten days of summer, along with warmer weather and longer days.

This year the Calgary Stampede runs from July 5th to 14th so get ready to saddle up and enjoy the ride.

The traditional staple events are always something to look forward to, the rides, rodeo, The Bell Grandstand Show, Coca-Cola Stage, Nashville North and the Virgin Mobile Concert Series that takes place at the Saddledome, only to name a few. One thing I think all Calgarians look forward to is the release of the new midway food!

The Calgary Stampede vendors always find a way to put a twist on fair foods and this year is no different.

For the usual snacks we come to expect this year you will be able to find:

• Bacon onion rings on a stick

• Cereal sugar, cinnamon bun and cotton candy mini doughnuts

• Flamin’ Hot Cheetos corn dogs and veggie corn dogs

• Pickle cotton candy

• Smoked Turkey tacos

Ice cream is always a big hit on those hot days when the sun is beating down on you. Stampede always takes it up a notch with the ice cream flavours as well.

• Butter Beer – for our Harry Potter fans out there

• Churro cone

• Gold – a chimney cake ice cream cone covered in 24k gold

• Mochi

• Pickle

• And a monster bug bowl that is topped with real edible monster creepy crawlies

Now what we have all been anticipating, the weird and out there food offerings that come every year.

• BBQ chicken hearts on a stick

• Deep-fried Twizzlers

• Dill pickle pops

• Flamin’ Frog legs

• Deep-fried ice pops

• Octo Leg on a stick

• Octo lolly

• Pickle Pizza

• And something called the ‘snickle dog’ that is a pickle, hot dog and Snickers bar wrapped in a tortilla and deep-fried.

There are a lot more food options to tickle your taste buds, so make sure to check it out for yourself.

The Virgin Mobile Stampede Concert Series is one of the biggest events and brings along a lot of big name country music stars. This year Zac Brown Band, Sugarland and Tim McGraw will all be visiting our lovely city during the Stampede.

Nashville North also brings in a lot of country headliners and this year expect to see Emerson Drive, Kiefer Sutherland, Jess Moskaluke, Chad Brownlee and so many more it is simply too much to name.

Speaking of music, it is not only country tunes that grace the Calgary Stampede. The Coca-Cola stage is also a very popular venue that is completely free to all those at the Stampede! This years headliners include the likes of Feist, Dashboard Confessional, Metric, T-Pain and many more.

The stage is packed with local, national and international performers for all ten days straight.

There is so much to do at the Stampede and it is certainly difficult to fit it all into one day, so make sure you plan it all out, especially since you don’t want to miss out on anything. Check out for a full guide on the 2019 Calgary Stampede.
