It only takes a stroll through any show home, a flip through the pages of the myriad home-improvement magazines that have emerged, or a surf around the TV channels to realize ensuites are becoming spa-like retreats. And it’s long been forecast the bathroom is among of the top spots to sink your investment bucks into—yielding a projected return from 60 to 120 per cent, depending on whom you ask.

From dual vanities and custom cabinets to two-way fireplaces and flatscreen TVs, multiple shower heads to loos with a sensor to trigger a lid lift on approach, today’s ensuites are flush with perks. Whether you’re eyeing revamp ideas or wish list items as you build your dream home, this month’s feature on enviable ensuites is sure to soak up your attention. And speaking of focus, our regular photo feature is a true page-turner with a splashy spread on the latest standalone tubs becoming fixtures in the home.

In keeping with tradition, we have anchored the book with a trio of top show home models worth touring in and around Calgary, from a Bellia beauty in High River to Cardel’s STARS lotto home in Auburn Bay and a palatial Greenboro address in Cranston.

With the winter of our discontent coming to an end, our design guru Alykhan Velji has organized his tips for giving your digs a timely spring clean. And the longer days turn thoughts to projects from painting to developing the lower level, so Sonya Procenko consults the experts in a basement trends feature, and uncovers a stewardship program giving recycled paint a second chance in her regular Going Green instalment.

Green thumbs and handy sorts will want to save the dates of February 28 through March 2, when the Home and Garden Show springs into town. Learn what’s causing a buzz at the growing event, as Tonya Zelinsky talks to Tomboy Tools’ Lori Mitchell, who’s among an impressive list of experts offering advice at the budding show, on page 10.

After a hard day of renovating the basement or cleaning house, nothing beats sinking into a comfy couch. Since all chesterfields are not created equal, New Home Living has consulted the pros on what to look for when sofa shopping.

So sit back, put your feet up, and enjoy this issue of New Home Living, Calgary’s Number One new home lifestyle magazine.
