Ask anyone who knows me and they’ll tell you I enjoy my vino. So I couldn’t help but get into this month’s feature story on wine rooms and cellars. While I only have a few bottles, it’s hard not to get the creative juices flowing and imagine having a full-fledged wine cellar of my own. I admit I was in my glory at the cover shoot of a very impressive cellar that’s all set to be filled—with no less than 9,000 bottles, a touch-screen inventory system and, of course, temperature control and a thumbprint-reader for entry once the homeowners move in to their brand new estate in northwest Calgary.

Turns out Calgarians have really developed a palate for wine rooms, winemaking spaces, and storage coolers in their new homes. We’ve uncorked the possibilities on page 54.

Also in the September edition is some helpful advice on one of the tough choices when building a new home—cabinets. And when it comes to design, sit back and enjoy the read on chairs. Whether it’s a comfy bar stool, Drake chair or a chaise lounge, you’ll be at the edge of your seat as you learn how chairs are more than something to plunk yourself down in—they can become a focal point in any room.

For this month’s builder profile, Deep Shergill took some time out of his busy schedule as Calgary Region Home Builders Association president and helmer of Prominent Homes to chat about the company’s philosophy and what’s new with the builder.

Of course, we have our regular show home features. This time we head south to Cardel’s latest Cranston show home, then out of town to Creations by Shane’s Amberwoods in Airdrie. While there, we take a trip through the community of Cooper’s Crossing, before swinging by Lyalta’s up-and-coming golf course community, the Lakes of Muirfield.

If you are looking for a new home in Calgary, or even if you are fixing to give your not-so-new address a facelift or the gift of new furnishings, you have come to the right place. Same goes for interior design or decorating ideas—we’ve got that, too. Grab a cup of coffee—or better, yet, some Sangiovese—and drink in the September issue of New Home Living, Calgary’s Number One lifestyle magazine.

Next month: learn what’s cooking in kitchens.
