Rec rooms have come a long way, baby! When I was growing up in the ‘60s and ‘70s, our rec room consisted of a ping pong table in the middle of an empty basement. We thought it was okay at the time, but it pales in comparison to the rec room of today which might consist of everything from billiard tables, to pinball machines, to specially designed card tables and wet bars. Our cover story takes a look at just some of what’s available to help you pass the winter months.

It’s About Choices … continues this edition with some local new home experts lending some helpful advice on shopping for a home builder. Each month, the It’s About Choices… series of articles will discuss some of the decisions, options and upgrades that are part of the new home building process. Next month we tackle how to choose a bank or mortgage agent and a lawyer.

New Home Living is Calgary’s media leader when it comes to profiling specific new communities and home builders. This month our regular Community Profile features the Town of High River, while the Builder Profile highlights the works of Shane Homes. In a special feature we celebrate all the Calgary winners at the recent Canadian Home Builders’ Association Alberta Awards of Excellence in Housing.
