In the swing of spring
April showers bring May flowers. And even if Calgary didn’t have as much precipitation this spring, it’s still time to think about your garden. We bring up in this issue what is turning out to be the most popular way to beautify the backyard: water features.
Ponds and fountains seems is the way to go, and new technology allows owners to enjoy their water feature long into the fall and not have to worry about freezing up their equipment. Water by Design offers a tour that will present 40 of their best creations and give us an idea of what’s available.
The season also brings a new crop of show homes that are at once optimistic and buoyant in their outlook. One need look no further than Trico Homes’ stunning new Beacon Height’s show home, The Kennedy. To gather this sunny point of view, and its fresh design ideas are something that can’t be missed. Baywest Homes has another winner in its hands with the Montcalm in The Ranches of Silverado. While Reid Built Homes’ the Addison shows what its like to set down roots in Airdrie.
Which leads us to this month’s special Loving Airdrie Living special. Here we talk about the merits of Airdrie and why people here are so happy. We also get exclusive looks at some of the best developers and their projects in the growing city, including Vesta Properties’ Williamstown, Mattamy Homes’ Windsong, WestMark Homes’ Cooper’s Crossing, Genesis Land’s Bayside, Hopewell Communities’ Reunion, and Melcor’s King’s Heights.
Back to the main magazine, we also have L. Sara Byterveld and her ‘green’ shopping story and Aly Velji’s design and décor contribution for the month focusing on that sexiest of topics: plumbing.
The Calgary Fire Department also reminds us to open our doors to fire crews and volunteers as they go about their Home Safety campaign from May to October — listen to what they have to say to keep the family safe during emergencies.
We also get to find out the winners of this year’s SAM Awards, and next month we aim to spotlight some of the awardees in our profile features.
