April 2011 | Issue 64

The colour of change

Spring is all about green for us here at New Home Living, as this April issue not only marks the change of the season, but it is also our “green-themed” edition where we turn our focus on all things sustainable and eco-friendly in the new home industry.

We’re extremely lucky to have rising home renovation TV star Jackie Morra talk about one of her passions in “green” flooring in this month’s shopping feature. She was one of the speakers at the recent Calgary Home and Garden Show and she was more than happy to be a guest writer for us this month and share her expertise on the subject with our readers.

Aly Velji, a regular at the show and in our magazine, brings some of his brilliant ideas in repurposing old furniture through up-cycling in his Design & Décor column. While L. Sara Bysterveld gives attention to “green” pet care in her monthly Going Green feature.

Another reason to be excited about this issue is our Loving Airdrie Living special feature.

We are featuring nine of Airdrie’s best builders and developers and the projects they have going that has Airdronians — and the rest of us — excited.

Speaking of excitement, there’s certainly lots of that going on in Walden. Genstar’s gem of a community in the southeast is our cover feature this month. Genstar’s Paul Boskovich tells us of the terrific new amenities going into the community — including a school and giant recreational facility as well as a new commercial centre. Avalon Master Builder is building some excitement of its own with its new partnership with Mike Holmes and his Holmes Approved Homes program.

While Birchwood Properties can’t contain their enthusiasm for their wondrous new show home in Currie Barracks — The Legacy. And of course, the thrill is palpable for the 2011 Foothills Hospital Home Lottery grand prize, a $2.4 million mansion by Thomson Luxury Living in Castle Keep.

Award season is also upon us, as we announce the finalists for this year’s SAM Awards, the countdown is on to see the best of the best for 2011.

So as we leave winter behind, there’s more to look forward to than just great weather it seems.
