Cowboy-up in Cochrane
This month has been an extraordinarily busy one, not only because of the Loving Cochrane Living special section we’ve included in this issue, but because of a long string of show home openings that has kept the Calgary new home market a lively one this fall (and me jumping along with it). Just check out our Around Town column for a sample of what’s going on.

Back to our Cochrane special section, last month’s Loving Airdrie Living was a big hit and we’re confident this one will be too. Judging from what we see in the new communities of Fireside, Riversong and Sunset Ridge, Cochrane is suddenly booming, but the town has a strong sense of its own identity and there’s no danger that it will grow out of its western heritage image any time soon.

Cedarglen Homes’ Enchant in Auburn Bay is one of the recently-opened show homes I’m talking about, and this brand new design from the well-respected builder will surely wow, but it’s Cedarglen’s generous 30th Anniversary package that will make them stay. See our cover story for more details. Innovations by Jayman has unveiled their semi-detached homes in Cochrane’s Riversong, and these new two-storey and bungalow plans  will change the way people see duplexes from now on. Truman Homes grand prize home for the Cash and Cars Lottery in Aspen Estates is a terrific debut for the company in the lottery home market, and it is a worthy cause, too.

The two new communities of SkyView Ranch by Walton Developments in the northeast and Mahogany by Hopwell Residential on the other side of town are also featured in this issue. Both of them have new show home parades of mostly starter home products that are certainly changing our perception on what a first-time home should look like.

Aly Velji has cooked up some ingenious kitchen style tips in this month’s Design and Décor column and our photo spread on cookware in Focus On and party ware in Gadgets shows the tools necessary for the chic chef and what’s needed to throw an awesome party.

The Canadian Home Builders’ Association – Alberta (CHBA – Alberta) also came out with the winners of the 2011 Alberta Awards of Excellence in Housing Calgary Home Builders Association. Congratulations to all the winners!

It really was a busy month — but I’m not complaining — it is a tremendous indication of the health of Calgary’s new home market. Whatever new developments there are, rest assured that New Home Living will be there to provide you, our readers, with what’s the latest out there. See you in a month.
