Living communities

For the month of March, with spring on the way (some say it’s already here with the extraordinarily mild weather we’ve been enjoying), we thought it may be a good time to give readers an idea of some of the new communities that may be flying under the radar — including our series of features on those found east of Calgary in our Loving East Side Living pullout section.

We start things rolling with our cover feature on Sabal Homes’ Synergy laned show home, which puts the spotlight not only on their “uncommonly stylish” design but on the Cochrane community of Riversong as well. Our tour then takes us to the neighbouring community of Fireside by La Vita, on the other side of Highway 22, to check out the kind of homes they offer here. We then go to one of the west’s newest enclaves, West Grove Estates by Bri-Mor, which enjoys a secluded spot that’s still near a ton of amenities. We take the tour north to Airdrie’s Williamstown, by Vesta Properties, that has been riding a big sales spurt since the year began — and you can find out why in the feature. Then we go south to the new High River community of Montrose by Dundee Developments and see the kind of peace and tranquility the rolling grasslands of southern Alberta produce.

The aforementioned Loving East Side Living examines the kind of homes and lifestyle available in those locations east of Calgary, including Chestermere, Strathmore, Langdon, and Lyalta. This pullout is the first of several we plan this year that will look into the areas outside of Calgary — including Airdrie and Cochrane — and see how they are distancing themselves from the shadow of the big city.

With all this talk about new communities, Jim Zang takes a look at the biggest one of all, as he discusses the market outlook for Calgary. This issue, we also shine a light on the bathroom and the kinds of design that has become popular to make it the personal retreat that many now want to create, as Jessica patterson notes in her On Trend piece. I did my best to try out the shower heads I talk about in my Shopping story, but I still can’t make up my mind as to what’s the best — showering is after all a very personal experience and we each all have our preferred settings.

The love for our new show homes and communities is, of course, what keeps us going, and do our best to keep you up to date with the latest offerings from some of the city’s biggest builders and developers.
