June is a little too early for summer fireworks, but we did set some explosive numbers as far as home starts are concerned by more than tripling last year’s year-to-date numbers. This exuberance can be felt in the number or new show homes that have opened recently in the city, and we get to tour some of the most fabulous ones in this issue.
Nowhere is this sense of growth and optimism more palpable than in SkyView Ranch. Our cover feature shows how this lonely stretch of land east of Deerfoot Trail has become the face of the New North. Sabal Homes continues its stellar run in the booming southeast community of Copperfield and their Reflex show home establishes a new standard in innovative design. Landmark Homes’ appetite for style is in full bloom in their Solex 2 show home in
Cochrane’s popular Sunset Ridge. Morrison Homes, meanwhile, makes the best of its spectacular location in the new Nolan Hill development in the northwest with its Westport manse. And, for something totally different, we threw in a feature on Capstone Custom Homes to shed a light on Calgary’s thriving custom home industry and our upcoming DOMUS magazine which delves further into this rich and lavish custom and infill world.
This month, we also bring you a bunch of pet-centric features: I talk about the careful considerations one must first think of before bringing a pet to your home, while Jessica Patterson’s On Trend feature looks at pet-friendly design options for your living room. Kathy McCormick’s shopping feature lends readers a hand in picking out what sofa to choose to complete their living room’s look. One tip, if you have a pet, buy lint removers in bulk.
An added bonus this month is the Living The Dream magazine that comes with this copy of New Home Living. Living The Dream is a Source Media Group initiative in support of the Cancervive and Wellspring Calgary cancer outreach programs, and you can see the stories of the brave and intrepid souls who are undertaking the epic Cancervive bike ride to Maine this year to raise funds and awareness to battle cancer.
This is one way we get to show our support for the community and something our company looks forward to being more involved in.
As you can see, the magazine itself has got some heft to it, which can in itself be an indicator of the robust market. It’s in times like these that you want to go out there with the best information for choosing your home, and you’ll find it in New Home Living.
