Loving September

School kids everywhere may disagree, but September is my favourite month. The leaves start to turn, the air is crisp and you get some relief from the summer heat. What makes the month better for me is the annual Calgary Home + Design Show — where else can you see all the latest deign trends and newest home gadgets and talk to some of the most interesting industry experts under one roof? Check out what’s in store for visitors this year in these pages. We’ll be at the show too, of course, so make sure to drop by our booth to say “hello.”

September also marks the release of our semi-annual Loving Airdrie Living special edition that comes with this polybagged issue of New Home Living. We let readers know all that’s going on in this growing city to our north — the new-look communities and refreshing home designs are worth the short trip out.

This is a jam-packed issue led off by our cover feature on Hopewell’s Mahogany community in the southeast, where residents are now finding out just how enjoyable the four-season lifestyle can really be. We also check out Jayman MasterBUILT’s two excellent show homes in this award-winning community. For sheer grandeur, take at look at Prominent Homes’ new Ashwood show home in Aspenshire in the northwest and get blown away by their effortless class and style. Cedarglen Homes Enchant is enchanting, but even more noteworthy is the exclusive community they are building in Auburn Bay. We also have a look at the new northeast neighbourhood of Nolan Hill by United Communities and everything it has to offer.

We also have Kathy McCormick’s Shopping feature on the latest coffee makers and espresso machines, which is a real treat for me and makes me just want to break out the Visa and start acquiring all these neat new stuff that promises a life of caffeinated indulgence. With all that bitter, high-octane brew coursing through my veins you’d think I’d never be able to sit still, that’s where Aaliya Essa’s look into feng shui comes in. She explains in her feature how one can attain a calm, balanced lifestyle by practicing this ancient Oriental method of aligning your home to harness the earth’s chi, the elemental energy believed to exert a positive influence on our lives. Jessica Patterson’s On Trend design feature on kitchen backplashes rounds out this month’s lifestyle write-ups and actually gives me an idea of what would make the perfect backdrop for my new coffee maker on my kitchen counter.

September may signal a time of change and further growth — check out the news on the recently approved Keystone Hills development in Around Town —  but you can trust New Home Living to keep you up to date on what tidings these changes brings. Thanks you for reading!
