Life in HD

“57 channels and nothing on” was a familiar refrain from one of Bruce Springsteen’s lesser-known works from the 1990s, but from my estimation that number of channels has exploded exponentially. Now, whether you think they still have nothing to offer is entirely up to you, but with the new home entertainment gadgets available, the choices we have are countless.

We get to explore this new and exciting world of home entertainment with three in-depth features: from Anne Gafiuk’s musings on how advancements in wireless technology is reshaping our home entertainment world, to Kathy McCormick’s sojourn into the world of TVs, and Jessica Patterson’s tips for designing your own new home theatre in her On Trend feature. Hey, if I had a home theatre like the ones they describe here, I’d be charging my friends admission!

The show homes in Brookfield Residential’s Riverstone of Cranston have some of the grandest home theatre designs out there, but our cover feature on this exciting new riverside community delves deeper into the natural charms of this exclusive estate neighbourhood. The power of the sun is harnessed in Landmark Homes’ exceptional Net Zero home in Cranston as it shows how leading-edge solar panel designs can allow a home to generate as much power as it consumes. Glitz and glamour mix in Shane Homes’ Tofino III show home in Aspen, showing that sequels aren’t always such a bad thing — especially if they’re bigger and better than the previous one. Finally, Homes by Avi takes design modernity and marries it with functionality and convenience in their Hawthorne show home in Evansridge to come up with one of their hottest models yet.

Life in high-definition — that’s what all these show homes give us and I count myself to be very lucky to be given the opportunity to go through a lot of them, not all cities are as lucky as us to have such excellent selections in housing to choose from. Thank you for reading!
