Silverado

Jim Zang

With a world-class equestrian facility like Spruce Meadows as a next door neighbour, it’s only natural expectations were high for the new United Communities development of Silverado.

So far, it looks like the community won’t disappoint. United has a reputation for attention to detail, and so do the current posse of builders in the area. Last week, I toured the Lifestyle, Landmark, Trico, Avi and Sterling show homes – all in the 2,000 to 2,500 square foot range, and all very nicely done. The best way to describe them is mid-size homes with the high-end finishings often associated more with much larger homes. Next week I’m off to tour the really big show homes from Morrison, Baywest and Pacesetter and check up on progress at the Excel and Shane lots. According to Alix Halpen, Marketing Director for United Communities, the final number of new home lots in the community will number “about 2,000”, with all lots in the current phases sold out. Room has also been left for future multi-family development, as well as 40 acres of green reserve and pathways. There’s an underlying Western theme to the community; the fencing will have a definite ranch flavour to it and, of course, the 2006 Stampede Dream Home is going here. And something maybe people didn’t know: “United is committed to water conservation,” says Halpen. “All our homes adhere to a water conservation program, from the rain barrels to outdoor tap timers included in every home.” Even parks and green spaces, she says, are “designed with xeriscaping principles and general water management measures.”
