Country Roads

Jim Zang

Took the 15 minute drive from my Somerset home to Hawk’s Landing out at Priddis the other day to check out the two show homes and found it to be a trip well-worth taking. Not only were the show homes from Greenboro and Willowbrook Homes some of the nicest my wife and I have toured in a while (and we tour a few) but, on a nice summer day, there was definitely something special about being out in the foothills amongst the trees that made even a life-long city slicker like myself say “yeah, I could live here.” Of course backing onto Priddis Greens golf course doesn’t hurt either.

”We’re selling lots in phases one and two right now,” says Steve Hobbs of Hopewell Residential Communities, “ranging from half acre to full acre lots,” along the meandering, tree-lined hillside road. Lot prices range from the low $200,000s to over $350,000. (Additional lots in Phase three are scheduled to be released in early 2008)

Much of the land in and around the community and golf course has been designated environmental reserve - with a pathway system to be developed.  We had to wait for a deer to cross the road on our five-minute drive through the community. For a country estate community, Hawk’s Landing boasts what can only be described as a ‘central’ location. Bragg Creek and Kananaskis are just 15 minutes West; Millarville Farmer’s Market just 15 minutes South; easy access to the #1 West to Banff; and just 15 minutes into town to the Shoppes at Shawnessy. The hamlet of Priddis itself is just five minutes away and has a gas station, general store and restaurant, plus a church, community hall and outdoor rink.

On a separate note … a big “Thanks!” to the developers of Hawk’s Landing for what must be the best signage ever for a new development. There’s a sign at every turn-off along the way and all of the lots have nice little numbered posts that actually correspond to the development map. All in all, a pleasant Sunday afternoon drive to a really nice little community with really nice not-so-little houses.

Of course Greenboro and Willowbrook just happen to be the two home builders who have show homes right now, but several other builders are planning to build at the site and, says Hobbs,  “there’s also the opportunity to have your own preferred builder build your home.”
