Homes by Avi scores for Calgary junior hockey

Pepper Rodriguez

Dozens of children braved a blustery day in March to participate in Homes by Avi’s Even Strength fundraising and awareness program to benefit underprivileged kids’ dreams of playing hockey. The event, a joint effort with Calgary Flames Foundation for Life, was held March 29 at the new Homes by Avi show home in Elgin Village. It attracted a good crowd that saw a live broadcast of the Fan 960 with Peter Maher, hockey skills games, a raffle, an on-air auction along with snacks and drinks.

Homes by Avi’s Anita Bustos says their Even Strength program has raised almost $10,000 since it started this year. The money goes to the Flames Foundation’s efforts to fund registration fees for underprivileged families; designed to help address the higher cost of registration for hockey programs.

The foundation aims to raise $75,000 annually and has been helping children achieve their dreams to play hockey since 2000.
