Buzz-worthy Beattie staffers

Shelley Williamson

Nothing like turning a tough situation into a worthy cause. Beattie Homes staffers are hard at work these days, not only crafting award-winning addresses, but also standing alongside company president and CEO Bill Beattie, who’s been strongly battling acute leukemia, and has lost his hair as a result of chemotherapy.

Team Beattie is rallying behind Bill and the worthy cause, with the crew taking a break from raising roofs March 7, to get a really close coif for two worthy charities. At press time, 46 people had stepped up to lose their locks in a "Shave Your Lid" event, from within the Beattie organization, customers, trades and suppliers and the building community as a whole—including the likes Josh Withell of Beattie’s sales and marketing, Al Morrison of Morrison Homes, Brad Hawthorne of Hawthorne Interiors and Bill Morgan from Burnco. Withell credits Bill’s daughter, Jocelyn, with putting the hair-razing cause in action, who'll also shave her head.

Proceeds from the event will go to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada and the Kids Cancer Care Foundation of Alberta. The goal is to raise (or raze?) $100,000 between the two charities, with Beattie Homes matching funds up to $50,000.

Ways the public and industry members can get involved include corporate or personal donations/pledges ($20 nets donors a tax receipt); shaving or donating hair to make wigs for cancer patients (must be ten inches or longer for the latter, while the former collect donations via a pledge sheet); or by donating blood or becoming a member of the stem cell database via Canadian Blood Services (http://www.bloodservices.ca).

The head shaving is expected to be in full clip, with a professional hairdresser on hand, at 2 p.m. on Friday March 7 at the Beattie Homes office. Donations are also welcome by mail or hand delivery to Sophie’s attention at: Beattie Homes, 3165 114 Avenue S.E., Calgary, Alberta T2Z 3X2. To get involved personally, contact Josh at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) or 723-7623.
