Fund raising and hair razing
Hat’s off—and hair, too—to Chris Lu, senior marketing manager at Sabal Homes, who agreed to lose his locks in the name of charity.
Lu says he took the challenge of shaving his lid with his mom in mind, since she had to go through the same thing when she was diagnosed and underwent surgery for a brain tumour last year. “I am so overwhelmed at the encouragement you have given me—I really feel fortunate to be surrounded by such supportive people,” says Lu of the $10K raised to encourage the loss of his locks.
Lu joined seven other employees from the Hopewell Group of Companies and a nine-year-old child, who all volunteered to go bald to raise money for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation in support for this year’s CIBC Run for the Cure September 30.
Hopewell also got a team together for the run—made up of 40 staffers and family members—and together the Giving Hope Team raised $30,000 and won the best corporate spirit award at the Run for the Cure—far exceeding the team’s original target of $20,000. Also part of the fundraising were a bake sale and an online auction in the weeks prior to the run, to raise funds for the Hopewell team. Congrats to Chris and all the other good sports from the Hopewell Group of Companies in this year’s Run for the Cure!
