Results of the Canadian Home Builders’ Association — Alberta’s 2010 home building awards are in, and Calgary builders more than held their own, competing with builders throughout the province to capture victory in eight of 23 categories.

The biggest winner on the night was Edmonton’s Daytona Homes, who won the top Ralph Scurfield Builder of the Year title, as well as two other categories. Among Calgary builders, McKinley Masters was the only multiple winner, getting the nod for both their ‘green vision’ and single family home over $750,000.

Of special note, Allan Klassen of Calgary’s Albi Homes was inducted into the Alberta Home Builders Hall of Fame. A vocal supporter of the industry, and former president of the CHBA — Calgary Region, Klassen was instrumental in establishing the ‘once voice — one industry’ mantra that has become the rallying cry of local builders. The award is made all the more special by the fact it’s not necessarily given out to someone every year. It’s only given out when someone’s really gone above and beyond the call of duty to earn it and Allan, working on behalf of not just Albi, but the entire industry, has certainly done that.
