Mahogany Polar Bear Plunge doubles its success
Hopewell Residential Communities held its 2nd Annual Mahogany Polar Bear Plunge on Feb.11 where 39 brave – not to mention, selfless - souls threw caution and themselves into the frigid waters of the southeast community’s frozen lake for a charitable cause.
“We more than doubled the money we raised this year,” says Scott Hamilton, Hopewell’s senior manager of marketing and communications. “We raised $40,000 for Inn From the Cold this year, compared to last year’s $18,000.”
The honour of getting the first jump in the 20-foot-deep, 0-degree Celsius waters went to Morrison Homes’ Will Vandekraats, who raised the most money at $16,000. “I can’t tell if people were really being helpful or they just wanted to see me jump in the cold water,” he tells condolivingonline.com.
“We organized the Plunge as a way to lighten up in the middle of winter, celebrate Mahogany’s gorgeous lake, and raise money to benefit our friends at Inn From The Cold,” says Carlie Leask, Hopewell sales and marketing coordinator, who was also among those who took the frozen plunge.
Asides from Hopewell employees, representatives from Inn From The Cold, Volker Stevin, Mahogany residents, as well as Mahogany’s builder group - including Sabal Homes, Trico Homes, Jayman MasterBuilt, Baywest Homes, and Stepper Homes also jumped in.
