Paul Brandt’s Build It Forward goes forward
Country star Paul Brandt’s initiative to fight homelessness is well on its way, as volunteers get ready to complete the first two of seven homes that will be part of the Calgary-based Juno Award winner’s Build It Forward documentary television series.
Volunteers were hard at work putting the finishing touches in the first two homes being built in the southeast community of Cranston.
“We’re really excited, this is where the rubber hits the pavement,” Brandt tells Around Town, as his team is getting ready to take the show to Mexico where beneficiary families from Canada will get to work building homes for deserving families in that country.
“Build It Forward” will be an inspirational documentary series that will air on Country Music Television (CMT) in April 2011. The series will chronicle the journeys of seven families as they participate not only in the construction of their new home but also volunteer their efforts to “build it forward” and help build homes for seven other families, this time in Villahermosa and Tuxtla in Mexico and also in Haiti.
The program is building five homes in Calgary and two more in Cochrane. The first two homes are being built through Baywest Homes in Cranston, and two others by Jayman MasterBUILT in New Brighton.
Baywest, with its team of its regular trades, and special volunteers will craft two of these homes. Each of the homes will be 1,200 square-feet, two-storey’s, with developed basements to maximize usable space. Both homes will also be designed to the stringent Platinum rating for Built Green Canada — meaning these will be some of the highest rated energy efficient homes available.
“Baywest Homes is excited to annouce that we are are part of a terrific partnership with “Paul Brandt’s Build it Forward” project,” says Baywest’s Ryan Hall. “This is what we’re all about, homelessness is bigger than all of us and Baywest is proud to be part of this initiative.”
